I found out that annotating can be quite fun.
I have seen videos of people highlighting quotes that they really liked and writing in the margins in neat handwriting.
Some people would use the different colored highlighters to represent a certain character, or for a specific emotion (e.g. if the reader really liked a specific line, they would use the pink highlighter).
I have even seen some videos in which the readers have different colored pens to write in the margins.
I like the idea of annotating. I think it looks really interesting how everybody seems to have their own annotation system, and it would be fun to go back and see what were my original reactions to the text. I also know that there are a lot of positive reasons why one should annotate, such as it helps you better understand and remember the text.
Even then though, actually annotating has always been difficult for me. I am always anxious of writing in the margins, and can never commit to actually highlighting a passage from a book.
Today though, as I sat down to do my reading, I had the sudden urge to grab some highlighters (which is quite funny because I do not own any because I never use them) and a pen, and start adding my notes onto the page.
Even if I did have highlighters, I wouldn’t have been able to use them because the book I was reading wasn’t mine. I was borrowing it.
What I did do though was grab some sticky notes and a pen.
Even though it was more time consuming to annotate while I was reading instead of just simply reading the text, I had fun.
